The Cheney Knights finished their season in a relaxing game having wrapped up the Division ‘B’ Title the Week before and also keeping their record of only losing One league game all season on a clear but cold Night in Gaddesby. The Olde Black Horse turned up with only 5 players and offered to play with 2 players on One of the sides who could only use 5 boule and not 3 consecutively but due to it being the last game of the season and the Horses still being in with a shout of promotion Captain Sam showed good sportsmanship and said they could play with 6 boule instead so they had a fighting chance as the Knights were just playing for pride with the league already won.Captain Sam Burdett was with Dave Whait and Ryan Shaw and they got off to a flying start going 6-1 up before letting the Houghton on the Hill team back into it and with the game at 12-11 to the Knights Sam took out a opposition Boule that was just infront of the backboard with a lot of boule infront of it to win the game 13-11,Over on the other side acting Vice Captain Kev Baker was with Tristan Hooper and Roy Blockley and their game as well was a very tight affair until the Gaddesby team powered through as both teams approached the 10 mark to win the game 13-9,so no matter what the Knights could now not lose and made sure they kept their unbeaten record at Home as they were 2-0 ahead and looking good.In the Second set of games Sams team went 10-1 down and although they had pulled it back from a simular scoreline at Quorn the previous Week it was not to be this Time as The Knights went down 13-5,In Kevs Second Game it was another tight game until roughly the halfway point when the Horses strolled through to win 13-7,so the Final score was 2-2,38-46.Captain Sam said afterwards ‘It has been a really long season and My team apart from the game against Tonights opposition When We played away and lost 4-0 has played to a very high standard,We had a good run in the cup getting to the Quarter Finals and being within a point of getting to the Semi’s against a Premier league Team.I would like to thank everybody who has come to watch us and in particular My Vice-Captain Richard who is currently in plaster but drove us to games when He first got injured and was not in plaster and has still come to support us in every game,I would also like to thank the Team who although there is a lot of banter play to win and to players like Roy,Simon and Peck who have stepped in when needed and not let the standards drop at all,I Finally would like to say there are 33 Weeks until the next season starts and Division ‘A’ is a lot higher standard so We need to raise our game even higher but for now We have won the league which is brilliant so congratulations to everybody involved,It has been a enjoyable season and the Cheney Knights have a bright future’.

The Cheney Knights won the League title in dramatic fashion meaning on the same Day the Queen was declared the longest serving Monarch the Cheney Knights were declared the new kings of Division ‘B’ on a tense but pleasant evening in Quorn,To guarantee winning the league the Knights needed to get at least 2 points and that is just what they did.Captain Sam was playing with Ryan Shaw and Rob Woods and they got off to a good start going 4-1 up but then the Hounds got 3 on One end and the Gaddesby team just could not shake them off,With the score at 12-11 to the Hounds Sam pulled out a shot to take the game 13-12,Over on the other side acting Vice Captain Kev Baker Who had the job due to Richard Wesson’s Arm injury although again Richard did come to support the team was with Dave Whait and Roy Blockley and although the start was quite close the Quorn Team pulled away and though the Knights did make a mini comeback the Hounds took the game 13-10,So at half time it was 1-1 and with the Fox Hounds needing points both teams were quite Happy but the hard work still needed to be done.In the Second set of games Sams Team struggled with some superb pointing from the Hounds and found themselves 10-2 down and with things on Kevs game not looking very good Sams team chipped away with some 2’s on a few ends before getting 5 on One end taking the lead 11-10,Then Ryan put One on and Sam with the last shot of the game went up the left and side to take it 13-10 and more importantly to win the league,On Kevs game the Quorn Team took quite a big lead and there was no coming back with the Hounds again pointing well as the Home team took the game 13-8,Meaning the final score was 2-2,48-44.Captain Sam said afterwards that to win the league with a game still to go is absolutely fantastic,He also said He was delighted with His own 3 who are not really that experienced but kept their nerve when in mattered,He finally added that Kev’s team just had One of those Nights that everybody has including His own Team but over the last 5 months everybody has been great and it means the team can enjoy the rest of the season.

The Cheney Knight took a step closer to being crowned Champions with a inexperienced team who did themselves proud on the Night to put themselves within a point of winning the Division on a drizzly Night in Hathern.Captain Sam was playing with Ryan Shaw and Robert Woods who had played One previous game for the Nights and they raced ahead 5-1 before letting the Crowns back into it,It was close for a while then with the scores at 12-9 and a Hathern Boule an inch away Sam used his First Boule to Seperate them a bit and His Second One to sit on it to take the Game 13-9,Over on the other Side acting Vice Captain Tristan Hooper who had taken over the duties due to an injury to Richard Wesson who still drove most the team there and supported the Knights through the whole match and got soaked for it and a absent Kev Baker was playing with Dave Whait and Debutant Clark Thornton and theirs was a very tight affair with the Game going to 12-12 before the Gaddesby team took the spoils winning 13-12 as the rain started to come down quite hard,so at Half Time it was 2-0 to the Knights and victory was on the horizon. In the Second set of Games Sams Team were close all the way through it til it got to 10-9 to the Hathern Team before the Home team got 3 on the last end to win 13-9,Over on Tristans game the Knights made very light work of it winning 13-3 with some excellent pointing from Clark who really played well on the Night,so the final score was a Cheney Knights win 3-1,48-37.Captain Sam said afterwards that considering He put 2 inexperienced players in the team it really was a good win with both Rob and Clark playing very well,He also said that the Knights need to keep their eye on the Boule,Before lastly adding that it is now about getting over the line next Week in Quorn in the last away game of the season.

The Cheney Knight won their First game in hand in a match that was re-arranged from 5th August as they took One small step closer to winning the League in a poorly lit but pleasant evening in Hoby.Captain Sam who due to Tristan’s absence moved Vice-Captain Richard Wesson over to His own team and they were joined by the ever present Ryan Shaw and they made very short work of it winning 13-2 in about 5 ends with all 3 players bang on form the game was over in about 20 minutes,Over on the other side acting Vice-Captain Kev Baker was with Dave Whait and Josh Kennedy and there game was a much tighter affair with the Offcuts taking a 12-7 lead it was left to Kev to drag his team back to 12-12 before the Knights won it 13-12,so at Half Time it was 2-0 to the Cheney and all was looking good.In the second set of games it was decided by the 2 Captains that all ends should be played One way due to the lack of light as One of the floodlights had gone out but Kev and His team could not take advantage with Dave having One of those Night the Gaddesby team went down 13-11although Kev tried His hardest with Him and Josh playing well to get to 11,Sams Team after a lengthy break got back in the saddle and the Scores went to 8-8 with the Knights getting some high scoring ends then the Cheney took a 12-9 lead before Sam took out a hard boule to get to the Cheer of the travelling support to take the game 13-9 with the Bells looking like they might sneak back in,With Kevs 13-11 loss being so tight it had done the Knights goal difference no harm at all with a 14 point swing so the final score being 3-1,50-36.Captain Sam said afterwards that this own Teams First game was top draw stuff adding He was very impressed that Kevs team dug in a ground out a win when all was not looking good,Finally adding that they need to keep a high standard and keep their nervefor the rest of the season.

       Legs;3                                                           Legs;1
The Cheney Knights stayed Top of Division ‘B’ as they head into their 2 games in hand with a 3-1 win against a good Blue Lion ‘B’ team who played well on a very wet Night in Gaddesby.Captain Sam Burdett was with His normal 2 of Tristan Hooper and Ryan Shaw and they missed out on getting a 6 on the First end coming out with just a 1 and they paid for it going down 13-3 on a very unpredictable Piste 2 which is in desperate need of gravel,Acting Vice-Captain Kev Baker was with Dave Whait and making His Debut was Robert Woods who had a very good Night and their First Game was a very tight affair with the Knights coming back from quite far behind to win 13-12,so at Half time the scores were 1-1 and it really was all to play for.In the Second set of games Sams Team made a vast improvement and always looked the better team with Sam putting the winning Boule on with quite a difficult shot to take the game 13-4,Over on the other Side the Gaddesby team never looked like losing with the Knight always being about 5 points ahead before they powered through to take the game 13-7 so the final score was 3-1,42-36.Captain Sam said afterwards that although His own Teams First game was unacceptable the other 3 games were the sort of level the Knights needed to be at for the remaining few games and Rob wood had a very good debut in a tough game and kept His head,He also said that it was important that His team were top as they head into the 2 games in hand and maximum points are needed in those games to push the Knights away from the rest of the League before adding that the last 4 games are very important now as the Cheney need to get as many points as possible from now until the end of the season.

     Legs;2                                                                  Legs;2
The Cheney Knights made hard work of getting a draw as they didn’t win for the First Time at Home this Season in the league but still went back on top of the league with 2 games in hand on a very dry Night in Gaddesby.Captain Sam was with Tristan Hooper and Ryan Shaw and they got off to a decent stat going 2-0 up before the Three Crowns came back and although it was tight until the halfway point the Hathern Team got some High scoring ends to take the game 13-7,Over on the other side Vice Captain Richard Wesson was with Kev Baker and Dave Whait and they shot into a good lead and You could see there was going to be only One winner as the Knights took the game 13-8,so at Half Time it was 1-1 and points were still up for grabs. In the Second set of games Sams Team got a 4 on the First end and just pulled away slowly but surely with some good pointing from Ryan who was much improved,Richards Team did pull ahead as well but when the Scores got to 11-10 to the Three Crown the visitors got a 2 on the last end to win the game 13-10,so the Final score was 2-2,43-39.Captain Sam said afterwards that the Pistes Tonight were very Hard and uneven so some ends really were a Lottery this however is no excuse as it was the same for both sides,He also said He was proud of Tristan and Kev who the previous Night had played in a epic Semi finals Doubles match before losing in the deciding game and that may have had a bearing of fatigue on this game but both still played well,He finished by Saying that although results had gone the Knights way that is more luck than anything and His Team really need to buckle down and raise their game as with only 5 games left for the Nights this really is the Business end of the season.

         Legs;2                                                          Legs;3
The Cheney Knights went out of the Cup in a very dramatic fashion on a very long Night against Premier League opposition in a very hard fought game in Gaddesby.Captain Sam was playing with Tristan Hooper and Ryan Shaw and they got off to a good start getting 2 on the First end before the Farriers got some good ends and although the Knights made a late comeback once the Farriers had 12,they went down with the Ratby Team winning 13-6,Over on the other side Vice-Captain Richard Wesson was back after 2 Weeks off and He was playing with Kev Baker and Dave Whait and although the Farriers took quiet a big lead the Gaddesby Team came back to win the game 13-9 so at at Half Time it as scores don’t matter in the Cup it was 1-1.In the Second set of Games the Cheney had to pair up and Sam decided on Richard playing with Ryan and Tristan playing with Kev and Himself  and Dave sitting it out in case a sudden death game was needed as there was no suitable 3rd piste available,Richard and Ryan got off to a good start before the Farriers got a 4 on One end but with Richard and Ryan changing gear they Won their game 13-9,At this point Tristan and Kev were 12-1 up and just needed to win for a Cheney victory but both Captains decided for Sam and Dave to start their game but when the Tristan and Kev game was over Sam and Dave’s game would stop whatever the score, but Tristan and Kev just could not get that last point and with Sam and Dave loosing a very light hearted, tight game 13-10 Tristan and Kev really did need to win but they never got there with a dramatic 12-12 last end the Farriers had come from nowhere to win the game 3-2,57-54.Captain Sam said afterwards that He felt sorry for Tristan and Kev as sometimes Once You get to 12 that last point can be very hard to get,He also said that it does prove that His Team can compete against a Team who are currently 3rd in the Premier League before adding that The Knights now need to put that Game behind them concentrate on the League and just play for every point from now until the end of the season.

        Legs;4                                                         Legs;0
The Cheney Knight got back on track with a 4-0 victory against a Team they beat by the same scoreline earlier in the season in a well fought game in Gaddesby.Captain Sam who was back with Tristan Hooper and Ryan Shaw got off to a terrible start going 8-0 down in 4 ends before getting their act together and only letting the Walton on the Wolds team have 1 more point chipping away and coming back to win 13-9,Over on the other side acting Vice Captain Kev Baker was with Dave Whait who has been missing for a few Weeks and Roy Blockley and they made light work of it winning 13-2,so at Half time the Knights were 2-0 to the good and it was looking good.In the Second set of games it was Sams Teams turn to make light work of it thrashing the Anchor in 13-3 with the result never really in doubt with all 3 players starting the game as they had finished the last,Kevs team were struggling as Sams team had in the First going 8-4 down but when it came down to it with some excellent play from Kev the victory was secured for the Knights winning 4-0,52-24.Captain Sam said after the game that the Knights needed a 4-0 victory to jump start their season again,He also said that He was glad both teams had it in them to claw their way back, before adding they all need to be on form for the Business end of the season.

        Legs;2                                                       Legs;2
The Cheney Knights got themselves back on the right track although they did come off the top of the table in a well fought game that could easily have been another disaster at the Railway in Glenfield.Captain Sam who was playing with Chris Illingworth and Ryan Shaw won the First end and that was as good as it got as the Buffers came back and won 13-3 in a game that did not deserve such a thrashing,Over on the other side acting Vice Captain was partnered with Tristan Hooper and Roy Blockley and they were going the same way as Sams team until a mini fightback pulled it back to 12-11 to the Buffers before a winning shot for the Glenfield team won the game 13-11 and all was not looking good for the Knights,2-0 down and serious improvements were needed. In the Second set of games Sams team got 5 on the First end and they just kept chipping away although they let the Buffers back in at the end to get 3 the Cheney had reversed their first half score to thrash the Buffers 13-3,Over on the other side Kevs team did not hang around either pulverizing the Home Team 13-0 so the Knights had made the best of what they had at half time drawing 2-2,40-29.Captain Sam said afterwards that this was always going to be a tough game against a Team who were in Division ‘A’ last Year especially without Richard and Dave, adding that this could have gone the same way as last Week before saying that His team need to get back in the winning habit from now until the end of the season.

   Legs;4                                                          Legs;0
The Cheney Knights had a disastrous Night as their unbeaten record was blown to smithereens on a very unfortunate Night on a Piste which leans quite strongly to the side on a unfortunate Night in Houghton on the Hill.Captain Sam Burdett teamed up with Tristan Hooper and Ryan Shaw and When the Knights went 6-0 up all looked promising but when the OBH LADP the got a 4 the Houghton team then soon took the lead although the Gaddesby team did make a mini comeback they went down 13-10 in the end.Over on the other side Vice Captain Richard Wesson was with Kev Baker and Simon Hargrave and the OBH LADP took an early lead and although the Knights got 5 back the Home team soon won the game 13-5,so 2-0 down at half time and the best the Knights could hope for was a draw.In the Second set of games Sams team did get 3 on the first end but when the OBH LADP then got a 6 the Houghton team took showed what Home advantage can mean sometimes and won the game 13-6,Richards Team went 4-0 down and somehow managed to pull back into the game being just 11-8 down the Home team soon put the game to bed winning 13-8 ending a very bad Night for the Cheney Knights with the overall score being 4-0,52-29.Captain Sam said afterwards that although the piste does take some getting used to that is what Petanque is all about playing on different pitches,He also said the OBH LADP do have a big Home advantage but there is never an excuse for 4-0,He also said that although the Knights just remain Top of Division ‘B’ this has to be a One off blip and His team need to move on and raise their game from now until the end of the season.

The Cheney Knights scraped through to the Quarter Finals of the Cup in dramatic fashion going through to sudden death for the First Time since the new rule came in last season against a Team who were top of Division ‘A’ until last Week on a sweltering Night in Glenfield.Captain Sam was playing with Tristan Hooper and Ryan Shaw and they got off to a bad start although they did’nt play bad it just was not happening with some risky shots just not working in the end going down 13-2.Over on the other side Vice Captain Richard Wesson was playing with Kev Baker and Dave Whait and although they got off to a bad start they took it 13-9,meaning 1-1 at half Time and as points do not matter that was it and all level.Sam decided to step out along with Dave, pairing Tristan with Kev and Richard with Ryan,Although as soon as it looked like it could be a draw they did start on the lower pitch,Kev and Tristan played very well pulling off a 13-3 victory and showing their class against very good opposition and immpresing the large crowd.Richard and Ryan were just not at the races and got beaten 13-2 meaning it was 2-2 and it all now depended on Sam and Daves game,They got off to a bad start letting the Forgers get 5,then on the next end The Knights sat 5 before an unfortunate shot from Dave knocked them back down to One the Glenfield Team got a 4 on One end making it 9-3 before the Gaddesby team clawed back but were 11-9 down and 2 perfect points from Sam and a Unlucky take out from the Forgers meant that Sam and Dave got 4 on the last end and won 13-9,43-49.Captain Sam said Afterwards that He was delighted to be in the Quarter Finals and said that Nights like that is what Petanque is about,He said He was very Happy that His Team can compete with Teams in the Division above and commented that the Knights need to get their heads down and plough through until the end of the season.

The Cheney Knights kept up their great start to the Season with a very impressive win to remain top of the table on a hot Night in Gaddesby doing their points difference no harm at all.Captain Sam was playing with Tristan Hooper and Ryan Shaw and they made quick work of their game with a 5 on One of the ends to win 13-4 with relative ease,Over on the other side acting Vice Captain Kev Baker was playing with Dave Whait and Josh Kennedy who was playing His First game for over 2 Years and although there were a lot of Ones which made the game take a long Time there was never any doubt who was going to win as The Knights cruised to a 13-3 win,So 2-0 up at half Time and the game was there for the taking. In the second set of games it was much the same as before with all 6 Knights players in good form there could only be One result as Sams Team got a 5 on the last end after some brilliant pointing from Ryan to Beat the Hounds 13-3,Over on the other side Kevs Team with a very in form Josh cruised to a 13-2 thrashing against the Quorn side to make it 4-0,52-12 on the night.Captain Sam said afterwards that it showed how far the Gaddesby team had come in the fact that the Fox Hounds prevented the Knights from promotion on the last game of the 2014 season,He also wished Kev and Tristan Good luck in their pairs game the following evening but finshed off by saying after last Weeks disspointment His own team had raised their game and both teams were not too far off the form they need to be in for the rest of the season.

The Cheney Knights had a good Night and a bad Night as the Two Knights teams had Two very different Nights on a Sunny Night in Thrussington but the unbeaten run continued.Captain Sam Burdett who was with Tristan Hooper and Ryan Shaw started off well enough going 3-0 up before going 10-5 down before pulling it back to 12-12,In the last dramatic end Sam lobbed One over that in any other game would have been enough to win it but the Lions pulled off a great shot to win it 13-12,Over on the other side The Gaddesby team were nothing but class getting 4 on Two ends and taking the Thrussington Team apart 13-1,so that meant 1-1 at Half Time in a close encounter. In the Second set of Games Sams Team got a 3 on the First end before in all fell apart with the Blue Lion taking the game 13-5,Richards Team however were in electric form all Night Thrashing the Lions 13-1 again with all Three players in devasting form so the final score was2-2,43-28.Captain Sam said aftewards that His own Team were really just not good enough on the Night simple as that,He said He was delighted with Richards team adding that that if the Knights are to do anything that is not far off the sort of form needed for the rest of the season.
