The third Gaddesby Sunflower Half Marathon was held on Saturday 11th May 2002 together with a 10km road race. The start and finish and supporting events were held in the field across the road from The Cheney Arms in Gaddesby. There was also a timed children’s race over an obstacle course. There was a live band, static displays and charity stalls providing entertainment both during and after the race.
The following day we held a Charity Auction at The Cheney Arms, focussing around celebrities’ drawings of a sunflower (the Hospice movements emblem) . In all we raised over £16,000 which was split between the LOROS and the Melton Mayor’s Appeal.

Ish Ahmed won the half marathon in 1:17:27 – first lady was Sarah Millac in 1:32:38.
Mark Rose won the 10km in 36:22 – first lady was Deborah Shaw in 44:04
