This year's Half Marathon and 10km courses attracted
over 300 runners in total. The races were held on an overcast and damp
evening. Running the 10km and Half Marathon races so close together meant
that runners and spectators had minimal time to wait but it did cause some
problems for the timekeepers. Apologies for those who finished towards the
end of the 10km as the results record your positions but not your times.
The races were run on a damp and overcast evening.
Temperature was around 13oC
at the start and the rain held off throughout the evening.
Full results are given below but in summary:-

Again apologies to those
who finished late in the 10km and only have their places recorded.
Proceeds from
both races went to Rainbows Children's Hospice. This year we raised over
£4,400. The costs of holding
the events were borne by generous donations from the Melton Building Society for
the Half Marathon and the Foresters for the 10km. All entry fees, sponsorship money and
proceeds from activities on
the day went straight to the Rainbows.
Both races were over
undulating courses on quiet roads in the Leicestershire countryside.
They are held in association with our local running club – the
Wreake
Runners. This means we are able offer a complete results service in addition to other benefits through having the event run under UK
Athletics cover. Click here for a

The Course
Half Marathon
The course is run over a 13.1 mile circular course along the roads
surrounding Gaddesby. After a short circuit of the old village the course runs
along the level road through Ashby Folville and on to Twyford. There is then a
three mile climb to Burrough-on-the-Hill. Just before the village the course
turns left down the escarpment towards Great Dalby . After a circuit of Great
Dalby we head back to Ashby Folville before returning to Gaddesby.
The long hill to Burrough-on-the-Hill and the undulating
roads afterwards make it quite a challenging course. It is unlikely that any personal
records will be set though the course is very rewarding.
A number of water stations are provided at intervals along the course and
a vehicle follows the runners round for any retirees or other problems.
Last year there were a number of walkers who also completed the half
marathon circuit. They will start off an hour or so before the runners.
Depending on pace the walk can take up to four hours so walkers should
beware of the sunset time.
10km Run
The 10km race takes the runners up through the village to Pasture Lane then
back down Park Hill and Main Street before following the Half Marathon route
for a mile. The 10km course then splits off and the runners go up to
Barsby and then left down the hill towards Ashby Folville. Just before the
village the runners turn left again and ascend Gee's Hill towards Great Dalby.
At the top of the hill they turn left back along Pasture Lane and keep turning
left until they reach Gaddesby. The course finishes in the field opposite the
pub.
The run is over a measured 10km distance. The
ascent of Gee's Hill is quite challenging although the rest of the course is
fairly level. The course record was set by was Chris Southam with a time of 35m17s.
The record for the fastest lady is held by Nicky Nealon in 41m34s.
Rainbows is the East
Midlands Children’s Hospice and is based in Loughborough. It provides Palliative and Respite care for
children under the age of 18 with life limiting diseases. They also provide help
and support to the whole family. Families normally stay for a few days at a time
for respite care. They have emergency beds for palliative care which are
available on demand. The atmosphere at the hospice is a happy one, like
that in a large family home. However it is underpinned by a professional nursing
led environment.
