On Saturday 11th May 2002 we held the third Gaddesby Sunflower Half Marathon. Last year's event raised a total of almost £9,000 for LOROS - Leicestershire's Hospice. This year we again held two races - a Half Marathon run for LOROS and a 10km road race in aid of the Melton Mayor's appeal. There was also be the chance for non-runners to take place in a sponsored walk around the half-marathon course also in aid of LOROS.
The start and finish and supporting events were held in the field across the road from The Cheney Arms in Gaddesby. There was also be a timed children's race over an obstacle course. There was a live band, static displays and charity stalls providing entertainment both during and after the race.
Early indications are that the day's events raised over £9,000 to be split between the two charities
On Sunday 12th May 2002 we held a Charity Auction at The Cheney Arms. Again the proceeds were to be split between LOROS and the Melton Mayor's Appeal.
Early indications are that the auction raised almost £7,000 to be split between the two charities - a total of £16,000 ! A big thank you to everyone who took aprt in or supported these events and helped us to raise this total.
