Report  (Pictures below)

On an overcast day in August teams from Gaddesby, Barsby, Rearsby (Horse and Groom), Long Clawson Vetinary School and Twyford took part in the second Gaddesby Tug of War. Billed to take place over the brook at Bellbush Farm the main competition was held next to the brook with informal challenges afterwards over the water.

In the opening round of the men's competition Gaddesby were defeated by Barsby and Twyford beat Rearsby. In the final the discipline and technique of the Twyford team easily overcame Barsby.

Rules forbade the use of studded boots and therefore the Ladies from the Vet College team were denied a chance to take place in the main competition. Competition was tighter than in the men's contest and although Twyford triumphed the teams from the other three villages put up a credible fight.

In a challenge afterwards the Long Clawson Ladies showed the value of their studs and easily beat the Twyford Ladies. They also very nearly beat the Gaddesby men's team in the hardest fought contest of the day. Afterwards the teams joined in a series of mixed pulls across the brook with organiser Dave Ford's gallant eight being pulled into the brook by most of Gaddesby.

After the contest the Twyford teams had to rush off to take place in a competition at Thorpe Satchville. In 2003 we will be organising a series of Pulls around the villages on separate weekends in order to set up a real competition throughout the summer. There will also be a clear list of rules.
